HRS, along with the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), the Pediatric & Congenital Electrophysiology Society (PACES), and the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP), worked with electrophysiologists and other experts in the field to provide a method by which facilities performing cardiac electrophysiology procedures can document their commitment to quality. This new, voluntary program is available in the United States and Canada.
A Board of Directors, made up of leading experts from the sponsoring organizations, governs the program under the umbrella and direction of the IAC. David E. Haines, MD, FHRS, is the program’s first president. The Board of Directors participated in the establishment of the Cardiac EP Accreditation Program, including the development of standards and the creation of the accreditation process and platform. They will now steer the program by reviewing the applications for accreditation and rendering the accreditation decision based on the information provided by the facilities.
This voluntary program provides accreditation in testing and ablation, device implantation and chronic lead extraction.
The Cardiac Electrophysiology Standards, the secure online accreditation application, and additional useful information are now available. We hope that you and your practice will consider participating in this important initiative and demonstrate your commitment to quality patient care. Visit the Cardiac EP Accreditation booth in the EPicenter in Hall D, Moscone North or hrsonline.org/IAC for more information.
Subsequent to HRS’s development of the 2013 guidance to the field, the HRS Board of Trustees conducted a comprehensive analysis of the accreditation market. As the leaders in heart rhythm care, the board approved an initiative to develop a voluntary accreditation program that would provide a method for facilities performing cardiac electrophysiology procedures to document their commitment to quality patient care. The Board of Trustees evaluated several options during a feasibility study and determined that IAC has the experience and reputation to facilitate the development and administration of the program.
