It has been a great honor to serve this past year as president of the Heart Rhythm Society, a professional society that truly is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of its members. The Scientific Sessions in San Francisco is an outstanding example of this dedication. The program you will experience the next few days was conceived and developed by our members volunteering countless hours and their experience to deliver world-class education.
This commitment has resulted in a Scientific Sessions agenda for 2016 that has many of the great sessions you have come to expect along with innovative, new education formats, speakers, topics, and segmented tracks.
Remember, Scientific Sessions doesn’t have to end when this week ends. With more than 4,000 registered users, Heart Rhythm On Demand is a great way to maximize and share your experience when you return to your routine.
The theme of the 2016 Scientific Sessions is Together We… which not only describes the effort put into the annual meeting, but the work our members contribute to so many Heart Rhythm Society programs throughout the year. As the pressures and complexity of delivering health care mount, it is nice to know that a member-driven organization such as HRS is there to be the voice for our specialty.
This year, we have focused on reinforcing the idea that HRS is your society by increasing the number of engagement opportunities by 40 percent, and yet the number of members willing to volunteer still exceeds this demand. This amazes me, and as long as there is work to be done to accomplish our mission, the Society will seek ways to utilize your spirit of contribution.
Last year, we launched three communities of practice, and we have seen a 70 percent increase in participation with more than 200 members regularly participating in these communities.
We are launching more communities this year. I invite you to learn more about these ways to get involved with HRS.
Consistently, we hear from attendees how much they enjoy coming to Scientific Sessions in order to catch up with old friends and meet face-to-face with their peers and mentors. This is an important aspect of our community — the better we know and understand each other, the better our solutions will be. Take time to connect and enjoy San Francisco at Heart Rhythm 2016.
